On this promotional video, we collaborated with award-winning commercial advertising photographer, workshop leader, Pro Edu and F-Stopper contributor, Clinton Lofthouse by creating an independent, short comedy scene during his photoshoot at York's only Viking pub, Valhalla who kindly allowed us to join in and shoot on their premises.
Clinton Lofthouse has a unique vision and photographic style that smacks with attitude and combines cinematic reality with comic book fantasy.

Equal collaboration = growth.
With a pedigree in creating key art content for marketing, advertising and promotional purposes including movie posters, promotional content and bespoke digital art for clients worldwide, Clinton had a clear vision of what he wanted and how to shoot his concept.
Working together, we supported Clinton's photoshoot Clinton returned the favour by supporting the supporting comedy scene in the form of our concept, taking the form of a short-film style video built around interactions of Vikings and tourists who find themselves in a sticky situation while visiting the popular city of York, UK.
Providing LED lighting, we explored shooting stills using constant lights and gels, rather than flash and added a small amount of smoke to enhance the scene, thanks to Red Shirt Films for providing the smoke machine.
Our part of the shoot took only a few hours, during which time Jay took the lead on directing our talent, while Mike was on camera and Clinton ensured the lighting from his setup was maintained.
Mike's highlight of the shoot was probably a tourist stopping at the window while we were shooting to say hello, ask what we were doing and to let us know that Mike looks like Jim Carrey (or another famous actor of similar calibre). That's a first and although we don't all see the similarities, thank you for the kind words.
What it took to make the shots.
As anyone who is a creator will testify to, there's always a lot going on behind the scenes that you don't see and this was no different. We had limited time to shoot stills and video in a creative way, which involved lots of smoke, talcum powder, horns of mead and chainmail.
Practically speaking, we worked 2 x professional actors, 3 specialist Viking reenactors and the owner of the bar to set up a lightly entertaining scene which flips the expectations of Vikings and how they would fair in battle with tourists.
“I'm really pleased with the outcome of working with Mike & Jay” - Clinton Lofthouse
